As the number of Freemasons grew exponentially in the late 1800s, hundreds of lodges built new buildings to accommodate their membership. These structures, sometimes grand in their design and scale, took elements, such as stained-glass windows, from sacred buildings like cathedrals and mosques. These colorful windows were made for Phoenix Lodge No. 96's temple in Whitehall, New York. These windows memorialize the lodge’s founding in 1844 and a renovation the lodge completed in 1908.
