Black and white stereocard photograph of German trench in La Bassee during World War I. Title is stamped in black at bottom right and reads "V18858 'And the Trench was a Reeking Shambles.' / German Dead in the La Basse Area." Mounted on a dark gray card. Double image of a muddy trench filled with a shallow pool of water and several dead soldeirs. Stamped in black on the ends of the card "Keystone View Company / Copyrighted, Underwood & Underwood / Manufacturers Made in U.S.A. Publishers" and "Meadville, Pa., New York, N.Y., Portland, / Oregon, London, Eng., Syndney, Aus." Printed in black on back is title and detailed description of image.
