a: Miniature portrait in a gold-tone frame with round loop at top center. Brown background. Bust portrait of man with gray hair parted in the center (Melvin Maynard Johnson). Subject wears a dark coat with white shirt and purple tie. On the back is a handwritten label reading "Christmas 1927." b: Brown leather-covered folding case with easel leg at back. Under the easel leg is a label for "Morrall / Rochester / N.Y." The front is hinged on both sides and opens from the center. The front flaps are lined with tan silk and the back is lined with gold velvet. There is an indentation for the portrait.
