a: three-piece jewel of a Masonic Past Master; nameplate and pin inscribed "KILWINNING"; from which is suspended a shield with St. Andrew and cross, thistles, chevron and compasses, abbey ruins and ribbon inscribed "Harry A. Thompson"; from which is suspended the jewel of a P.M. with large amethyst stone; reverse engraved: "Lowell/ Nov. 18, 1916/ Kilwinning Lodge/ to/ W.B. Harry Augustine Thompson, P.M."; b: black leather storage case with blue velvet; four flaps with two snaps exterior, interior reads "Frederick T. Widmer/ Jewels & Badges/ 31 Est St., Boston".


Kilwinning Lodge in Lowell, Massachusetts, gave this colorful Past Master’s jewel to Henry Augustine Thompson (1872-1953) in recognition of his term as Master from 1916 to 1917. In Massachusetts, Past Master’s jewels are typically in the shape a rayed sun within a compasses and quadrant. On this jewel, the center of the sun is a faceted purple stone.
