Masonic Overseas Lodge No. 40. Masonic Overseas Military Lodge group; black and white photograph; group shot of members of Masonic lodge; reads at bottom in white: "Officers of Overseas Lodge No. 40 F & A.M. / and Class of May 1923"; shows four rows of men in military uniforms (mostly American) with regalia in Masonic lodge room.

In 1919, in Coblenz, Germany, a group of military officers formed the Masonic Club of the Third American Army. The club was open to Masons and members of welfare organizations who were wives, daughters, sisters, or widows of Masons. The club organized social activities and gatherings, as well as memorial programs for those who died in service. Club members eventually founded Overseas Lodge No. 40 in Rhode Island.
