a: Clasp pin is scroll with cross gavels behind, "O of I A" in center; single chain suspension of silk American flag ribbon; from ribbon hangs an openwork shield-shaped jewel of Masonic compass and square, open Bible in center rests on folded flag; b-g: clasp pin badge with inscripted flourishes and "O of I A" in center; single chain suspension of keystone-shaped plaque stamped "Battlefield/ Council/ No 717."; silk American flag ribbon hangs beneath which suspends an officer's symbolic jewel (b. crossed gavels, c. quill pen,d. Bible, e. flag on pole, f.flag on pole, g. gavel.); h-i: clasp pin is scroll with cross gavels behind, "O of I A" in center; single chain suspension of silk American flag ribbon; from ribbon hangs jewel of crossed spears with points up that connect to shield. j: same as A; k: cross key and quill pen jewel. Ribbon, keystone plaque and clasp pin all missing.


This badge was worn by a member of the Order of Independent Americans. The group was established around 1900. Battlefield Council No. 717 met in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
