A stamp on this design for a marching band uniform notes that “THIS DESIGN MUST BE RETURNED WHETHER OR NOT THE GOODS ARE ORDERED.” This image was likely sent out as a sample to a potential uniform purchaser. The request on the artwork makes clear that the Cincinnati Regalia Company wanted illustrations of its products to be returned, so that the sample could be reused and, perhaps, to keep their designs out of competitors’ hands.
