Campaign button for Alfred M. Landon (1887-1987) and Frank Knox (1874-1944); shaped like a sunflower with round black center with yellow letters; reads "LANDON / KNOX" with yellow elephant in middle; attached to yellow felt with scalloped edges.

Alfred Mossman "Alf" Landon (1887-1987) and William Franklin "Frank" Knox (1874-1944) were the Republican Presidential and Vice Presidential (respectively) candidates in the 1936 election against Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882-1945). They were defeated in a landslide, winning only Maine and Vermont. Landon was Governor of Kansas from 1933 to 1937; Knox was U.S. Secretary of the Navy from 1940 to 1944. The sunflower was a unifying symbol for the campaign, which symbolized that Landon came from Kansas.
