Masonic Junior Steward's Collar
1940-60
Lipp-Rose Regalia Company
USA: Massachusetts, Boston
Velvet, metal
overall: 21 in x 10 in x 1/4 in
Loaned by the Grand Lodge of Masons in Massachusetts
GL2004.2303

Masonic Junior Steward's collar composed of metal rectangles with openwork Masonic symbols. At top and bottom center are stars. The progression of symbols along each side is the same. From the top: all-seeing eye, Euclid's 47th Problem, beehive, trowel, square and compass, plumb, level and square. The metal chain of rectangles is stitched to a blue velvet backing. Suspended from the bottom point of the collar is a round openwork jewel with a cornucopia in the center. The back of the jewel is engraved, "Shanghai Lodge." Stitched to the back of the velvet is a maker's label reading, "Lipp-Rose Regalia Co. Boston MA."

This Junior Steward's collar and jewel were part of the regalia owned by Shanghai Lodge, chartered by the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts in Shanghai, China, in 1904. A label on the back of the collar shows that the lodge purchased it from a Boston regalia maker.
