Hinged ice cream mold with Masonic symbols: "G" inside square and compasses; marked "948 1/2."
In the early 1900s, spurred by the advent of electric refrigeration, ice cream became available to more and more Americans. Soon, an industry developed around serving ice cream in celebratory shapes. This Masonic mold may have been used at a festive lodge event. Using ice cream molds did take experience - the ice cream had to be soft enough to release from the mold, but hard enough to keep its shape.
