Masonic Shrine Jewel; scimitar top with clasp-pin back; gold-colored metal handle and guard; jewel suspends from scimitar by single link; jewel has central Egyptian red face with gold-metal headwear and base plate; white pearl-like balls left and right of face; small ring below face where a star charm should hang; reverse of center plate has relief of small pyramid with urn in front; two tiger claws curve downward from center; interior edge and points of claws framed by gold-colored metal.


Known as the "playground of Freemasonry," the Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, or Shrine for short, bases its regalia and rituals on Middle Eastern culture. This jewel, which was worn by an officer at a local Shrine temple dates to the early 1900s.
