Emil Cruz in Group of Masonic Officers of Schiller Lodge No. 263. Black and white photograph of Emil Cruz and 13 other members of Schiller Lodge No. 263. Men wear tuxedos with white flowers tucked in their lapels, white gloves, Masonic jewels on collars, and Masonic aprons; they are in a room with curtains on either side, three framed pictures just visible on back wall, and a geometric-patterned carpet on floor. Men are arranged in two rows (front row seated, back row standing), with man at center of front row in top hat holding gavel and man at center of back row holding a sword upright. Written at bottom in white calligraphy, "SCHILLER LODGE No. 263, F. & A. M. / 1958 OFFICERS - William A. Frank, W. M. / Pherlo Photo". Stamped on back in black ink, "Pherlo Photo / DETROIT / 4100 COLUMBUS AVE. / TYLER 4-65[illeg]".


This item belonged to Emil Cruz. Cruz (1904–1983), born in the Philippines, emigrated to the United States in 1924 at the age of 19 and eventually worked as a jeweler. He was a member of Schiller Lodge No. 263 and Damascus Commandery No. 42, both located in Detroit.
