In Scottish Rite Freemasonry, the 33° is conferred only upon those brothers who make significant contributions to the fraternity or to humanity. Masons who receive this honor wear rings like this. In 1998, soon after Senator John Glenn received the 33°, he wore this ring when he returned to space in the shuttle Discovery.
