Masonic Civil War identification (ID) badge with vertical pin back. Pin is shaped like an acorn with rows of half circles in the cap section. The body of the acorn has text reading, "G.W. Boaz / Co. B / 22 Ind. V.V. / Vincennes, Ind." Toward the bottom of the acorn is a Masonic square and compasses symbol with a G in the middle. Stamped on the cap of the acorn is "G.A.R. / B. OF L.E." On the acorn stem is "1888."

G.W. Boaz wore this pin when he served in the Civil War. It signified his Masonic membership, which might afford him assistance from enemy soldiers if he was wounded or captured. It also would identify him if he was killed. At a later date, he had "1888," "GAR' for Grand Army of the Republic, and "B of LE" for Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers added to the pin.
