Masonic Scottish Rite 33rd Degree Jewel with Case for Josiah H. Drummond. a: Gold bar pin at top inscribed, "DEUS MEUMQUE JUS"; lower bar inscribed "DRUMMOND"; white ribbon with black edges; pendant of silver double-headed eagle with red-lined crown, sword in talons, "33" on shield on chest. b: brown leather case with incised octagonal design on cover. Hinge on short side, single gold button to open on opposite side; lid lined with dark blue silk, bottom lined with dark blue velvet with molded shape of eagle.


In 1862, Josiah Hayden Drummond received the 33rd degree, the highest honor in the Scottish Rite. Soon after he was presented with this jewel in the shape of a double-headed eagle, an emblem of the Scottish Rite. A distinguished lawyer and legislator in Maine, Drummond held many leadership roles in Freemasonry, including that of Sovereign Grand Commander of the Northern Masonic Jurisdiction of the Scottish Rite from 1867 to 1879.
