Carte-de-visite of an elderly man with side whiskers wearing Masonic collar with star and apron. Printed on card below image: "Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1872, by Carson & Barnard, in the Office of the Librarian of Congress, at Washington"; printed on reverse "An aged Masonic Veteran" with biography of David Stiles (the subject of the photograph, a 107 year old Mason), and advertisement to raise money for an aged Masons fund.
Sold as a fundraiser, this photograph celebrated the 107-year-old David Stiles’ (b. 1766) seventy-five years as a Mason. A description of Stiles on the back noted that as a young man, Stiles had “voted twice for Washington for President.”
