Painting of a Masonic banner. The banner has a coat of arms or seal with a viny wreath and a shield in the center. The shield is blue with three castles, a square and compasses.

Masonic groups—lodges, chapters or valleys—often had banners made that featured symbols and colors related to the organization. Members displayed banners inside lodges and also at public events, like parades and cornerstone layings. This watercolor rendering depicts a proposed banner design, which features an old version of the arms of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts. Which organization requested the rendering is not known.
