Masonic Shrine Fez, Bektash Potentate, with Insert Frame. a: Fez composed of maroon wool (likely) with a black synthetic fiber (likely) tassel. Applied to front is a Shrine emblem (scimitar, tiger claws, sphinx head, and star) surrounded by the text, "BEKTASH" (above) and "POTENTATE" (below). Entire composition done in rhinestones with white plastic bezels applied to a background embroidered with gold thread (except scimitar blade, which is in silver thread); most of these stones are iridescent, but some are in green or red; lettering for "BEKTASH" is three gems wide in all dimensions, compared to 1-gem-wide "POTENTATE" lettering; at center, gold-colored metal Sphinx head decorated with yellow, red, green, and white enamel stripes; gold bullion trim around "BEKTASH" and Shrine emblem; Shrine emblem has white pearls (likely synthetic) surrounding bullion trim. Tassel secured to PL side of fez with two sewn-on panels; upper one, which echoes the shape of the double tiger claw, has black fabric (likely synthetic) backing with gold thread embroidery, gold bullion trim, and plastic-bezeled iridescent rhinestones; lower one similar except in simple rectangular shape. Inside fez, red satin (likely synthetic) label sewn in has yellow embroidered "D.E. Lewis" at its center. Brown vinyl (likely) sweatband lining along opening. Silver-colored metal pin at top center which secures tassel. b: Red plastic insert frame in shape of fez has eight flat, flared "legs" down sides and, at top, four trapezoidal windows surrounding central round hole. Raised text running around inside of top of insert reads, "STEVE SKAPURA SHELDON INVENTOR U.S. PATENT NO 243129 1/25/77 LORE CITY OHIO JUDY ANN SHELDON SKIPCO. INC. CAMBRIDGE OHIO".
