Masonic Scottish Rite Portrait of A.W. Freeman; cabinet card shows man identified as A.W. Freeman wearing 33rd degree collar and Masonic jewels; signed "Yours in the sacred Number/ A.W. Freeman 33"; impressed on front "Webster and Bro / Louisville."

In this portrait, Freemason Ambrose W. Freeman (1817-1897), a draughtsman from Kentucky, proudly wears his Scottish Rite 33rd degree sash. Symbols of the Scottish Rite 33rd degree—such as a double-headed eagle with a crown and the number 33 enclosed within a delta—adorn his sash. Freeman wears a jewel in the shape of a double-headed eagle. A similar jewel is displayed in this case.
