Needlebooks were a convenient and secure place to store needles and other sewing supplies. This needlebook opens up to store needles and folds up into this convenient pocket size. This needlebook is thought to have belonged to Anna Buxton Rowell (1731-1822), grandmother of Anna Rowell Philbrick Decatur (1821-1906), wife of Commodore Stephen Decatur (1814-1876).
