Needlebooks were a convenient and secure place to store needles and other sewing supplies. The needlebook folds up into a convenient size to store in a pocket. This needlebook is thought to have belonged to Anna Buxton Rowell (1731-1822), grandmother of Anna Rowell Philbrick Decatur (1821-1906), wife of Commodore Stephen Decatur (1814-1876).
